Profits vs Animal Welfare

Australia animal welfare activists are waging a ban on live shipments of Australian sheep transported in horrific conditions on-board merchant ships across oceans. Footage broadcast on national network Channel Nine’s 60 Minutes program showed sheep crowded into a small space, workers throwing dead sheep overboard, and faeces-covered pens where animals stood panting or collapsed on the cargo bay floor.

Lambs born on these voyages are crushed to death. Over 2,400 sheep perished on a single voyage during the summer of 2017. Denied proper ventilation, food and water the animals succumbed to the oppressive heat and humidity of the cargo bays.
