Yanis Veroufakis
“Traitor”

ATHENS, July 28 – The political drama has escalated in Greece as the Supreme Court prosecutor forwarded to Parliament two citizen suits filed against former Finance Minister Yanis Veroufakis.
The Veroufakis Affair is set to overtake the drama that descended over Athens this summer, reaching a peak with the early dawn capitulation of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to the demands made by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble.
One suit charges Yanis Veroufakis with treason. It is filed by an attorney Gianayiotis Giannopoulos.
A second suit was filed by the the mayor of the central Greece town of Stylida: Apostolos Gletsos. The suit accuses Yanis of exposing the Greek nation to the risk of reprisals.
There have been off hand accusations circulating that Yanis caused the Greece economy to go bankrupt. This prompts demands by four opposition MPs from New Democracy for a parliamentary hearing.
Minimally at risk for questioning and possible prosecution are members of the secret crew Veroufakis set about developing and pre-staging software on Public Revenue computers to set up a parallel banking system in the case the German finance minister Wolfgang Schäuble pulled the Grexit dagger and plunged Greece into bankruptcy chaos.
A third suit is expected to be forwarded to Parliament. A lawyer’s group wants investigation into non-political persons who were part of Plan B.
Yanis told the posh London online chat show that he had a five person crew. As well as the expertise of a “childhood friend – an unnamed IT professor from Columbia University in New York.
The Athens newspaper that first published a partial transcript of the chat – Kathimerini -identifies the professor as the Director of Treasury’s Information Systems Michalis Hatzitheodorou,
It is up to Parliament to decide whether Yanis immunity should be lifted so he can be prosecuted. The first step would be to set up an investigative committee.
The charges would involve criminal violation of privacy data, breach of duty, violation of currency laws and belonging to a criminal organization.
It was the lawyers’ move that prompted Koutzamani to order an investigation.
The Information Systems director, Michalis Hatzitheodorou today issued a statement saying accusations about entering Public Revenue’s systems were absolutely false.
The Director said the system’s design guarantees the security of personal data. And the design makes it impossible for anyone to intervene in the system.
That being said:
Computer data systems that are entered by having proper credentials to access either full or partial layers of operations and data would not necessarily be identified by the system’s security as an intruder.
The former minister made clear when on the London chat show it was for the Prime Minister alone to determine whether to activate the Grexit Contingency Plan B.
If the protocols of Plan B were found to be operational and the Prime Minister gave the go ahead –
Then the scenario would to directly access Public Revenue’s system with credentials provided by the Director –
Or by use of the secretly written Plan B Script.
Yanis did not specifically name who controlled the computer systems – referring only to Brussels. However, he clearly stated that Public Revenue’s system was not controlled by the department’s chief, Katrina Savvaidis : Κατερίνα Σαββαΐδου.
It was for this reason – if the facts are as Yanis states them – that he secretly went about preparing Contingency Plan B. So that Brussels – whether it be creditors or eurozone officials – would not be alerted to the Greece government’s contingency plan should Wolfgang Schäuble plunge Greece into financial chaos.
